Weather & Tornadoes Remastered is a remake of the original Weather & Tornadoes (Weather1) mod by Corosus - one of most popular mods of all time. Weather1 was replaced by Weather, Storms, and Tornadoes after version 1.6.4, however, there were many players - including me - who preferred the original. This remake was made from the ground up specifically for modern Minecraft. It is probably the most technically advanced project I have done.
Although this mod is meant to be a remaster of a classic mod, I have expanded the content greatly; adding many more features and customization options.
This project has been endorsed by Corosus, the original creator. It can be found on CurseForge and Modrinth.
Here are some videos I have made showcasing the mod:
The main feature of this mod is the introduction of tornadoes & storm stages to weather. Storms can progress from stage 1 to 5; each stage can spawn tornadoes of increasing strength.
Tornadoes can tear up terrain and suck up mobs. The strength of the tornado determines what kinds of blocks it can destroy.
Implementing wide-scale block destruction, flying debris entities, complex particles, mob suction, chunk loading, and global tornado tracking from scratch was a huge undertaking and a great learning experience.
One of the things I wanted to prioritize in this mod was customization / configuration. I wanted players to be able to design exactly the kind of weather and tornadoes they wanted to have in their world.
This mod adds 10 weather commands to the game, and generates a configuration file with over 50 options to experiment with, including many performance settings to help lower tier devices.
Additionally, there is a built-in config menu players can use to take control over all things weather.
Probably one of the coolest features of this mod is the support for custom tornadoes - players can create their own tornado type and make it spawn in the world. Almost every aspect of the tornado system in designed to be customizable!
Like the original mod, this remake adds wind as a global, passive weather event. However, I wanted to make wind more than just atmospheric - I wanted to give it a use. I added turbines and wind channels for this purpose.
Using wind channel blocks, you can harness the power of the wind and use it to power turbines, which can push mobs and items in any direction!
The 1.0 version of the mod released around the time Minecraft Tricky Trials released, and I was inspired by the update to add something similar: Puzzle Chambers. These are structures that generate in the world which require wind to solve.
The gist of them is that you direct wind through turbines to free an item stuck in a special block. The only way to retrieve the item from the special block is to use wind, so players have to solve the puzzle - no cheating!
